The castles of the North East Highlands make a fascinating historic tour. Time dependent we can take in both Cawdor Castle and Dunrobin Castle within a day.
Cawdor Castle was built around a 15th century tower house. Best known for its literary connection to Shakespeare’s Macbeth, in which the title character is made “Thane of Cawdor”. Even though Macbeth is an 11th century King (4 centuries too soon for this building).
Dunrobin Castle is the most northerly of Scotland’s great castles, located on the east coast over looking Moray Firth just north of the village of Golspie and only a one hour drive north from Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland.
The castle dates back to the 13th century and is the family home to the Earls and Dukes of Sutherland, one of the most powerful families in Britain.
Dunrobin Castle has seen the architectural influences of Sir Charles Barry, who designed Houses of Parliament and Scotland’s own Sir Robert Lorimer.
Optional additional stops on this tour can include Culloden Moor & Visitor Centre, Loch Ness Jacobite Cruises and Glenmorangie Distillery.
The Isle of Skye is a must visit when you are in Scotland. The misty Isle offers breathtaking scenery, dramatic castles and plenty of opportunity for a dram or two.
Our day trip to Skye includes a visit to the iconic Eilean Donan Castle, a guided tour of Talisker Distillery and a visit to Dunvegan Castle. A lunch stop in Portree allows you a chance to sample Skye’s famous seafood and hospitality.
Beautiful at any time of the year, the Isle of Skye is best seen by private guide and that’s where ASB Executive comes in. To enquire, please complete our online form or call Alistair on + 44 (0)1855 811136.
Explore the bustling harbour town of Oban with its fishing boats and seafood. Enjoy time on your own to explore the shops, visit The Oban Distillery or perhaps the Oban Chocolate Company before heading off on the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry to the Isle of Mull and perhaps onward to Iona and its Abbey.
On Mull we’ll visit iconic Tobermory with its coloured houses made famous by “What’s the Story Balamory” with a stop off at the beautiful Calgary bar with its white sands. Onward then to the Isle of Iona and its breathtaking Abbey, said to have been visited by St. Columba and lauded the “Seat of Christianity” in the modern world.
Explore the shores and waters of the mysterious Loch Ness with a drive through Scotland’s Great Glen. We’ll stop off at Fort Augustus where you can join a boat cruise along the loch and indulge in a spot of Nessie Spotting.
At the head of the loch, we’ll visit Urquhart Castle before heading on to Inverness. After a spot of lunch, the city is yours to explore and its shops to plunder.
